Help pack groceries for our food distributions and Home Delivery program. This fast-paced, team-oriented shift is one of our most popular volunteer opportunities.
Support our largest food distribution, serving more than 700 households twice each month. Volunteers help with check-in, packing groceries, loading vehicles, and more.
Help provide groceries to approximately 300 households each month in North San Juan. A meaningful opportunity to serve a rural community with limited access to food.
Support our South County neighbors at our monthly Higgins distribution. This smaller, community-focused distribution offers a rewarding volunteer experience.
Deliver groceries directly to homebound neighbors throughout Nevada County. Perfect for volunteers who enjoy driving and making a personal connection in the community.
Help prepare or deliver nutritious lunches to local children during the summer. Volunteers are needed each weekday for both meal preparation and delivery routes.
Volunteer at fundraising events and community activities that support The Food Bank's mission. It's a fun way to give back while connecting with others.
Collect donated food from local businesses and partner organizations across Nevada County. Volunteers must have a valid Class C driver's license, a clean driving record, and be comfortable driving a box truck.
Help pack, sort, and organize donated food to prepare groceries for local families. This hands-on opportunity is perfect for volunteers who enjoy working as part of a team.

Volunteers need to have a current Volunteer Application on file before attending an event.

The minimum age to volunteer is 10 years old. Parental permission is required for any volunteers under the age of 18.
Volunteers between ages 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers 16-17 years of age do not need to be accompanied.
Looking for opportunities outside this age range? No problem! Reach out to us and let's see what exciting options we have for you!
You will have the option of entering any special requests when filling out our volunteer application. We help our volunteers select a task or duty that matches their interests while still fulfilling the needs of The Food Bank. Our goal is to work with volunteers to make their experiences positive and rewarding!
Volunteer hours will be recorded on a project log-sheet kept at our warehouse. It is mandatory and important that all volunteers sign in when working shifts on and off-site.
The Food Bank expects individuals to report and work as scheduled. However, we understand that things happen! If you are unable to make it to your assigned shift, please reach out to volunteer@foodbankofnc.org or 530.272.3796 ASAP so that we can work with you to get your shift covered.
While we would love to have you at every event, we understand that is not always possible. For this reason, volunteers are required to sign up per opportunity. This allows you to schedule as you are able to and The Food Bank to staff properly when needed!
Aside from completing the volunteer application, the only thing we require is your time!
While there are some dress code requirements for safety purposes. We do not require any specific items.
For safety reasons, we do require the following:
•Close Toed Shoes (at all volunteering events)
•Layers when working in the warehouse
While we do have some dedicated parking spots, there is not much room. Whenever possible, we encourage groups and friends to carpool so that we are able to provide as much parking as possible!

Recent federal legislation, known as HR1, has resulted in changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), known in California as CalFresh.
As a result of these changes, approximately 2,500 Nevada County residents have lost CalFresh benefits. Some households may also experience changes to eligibility requirements or benefit levels.
If you have lost benefits, received a notice of change, or have questions about your eligibility, we encourage you to contact your CalFresh case worker. If you need food assistance now, please visit our Get Food Here page.
