Food Safety

We at the Nevada County Food Bank follow all food safety guidelines to ensure that our community is kept safe and healthy while we distribute our stock.

For more information on what these guidelines entail go to https://www.usda.gov/topics/health-and-safety

More tips for food safety:

  • If a food's date says "best by" on it, it will still be safe for consumption after that date. Look up how long that specific food lasts past its best by date.
  • If a food says "expires *date*" then you should not consume that food past that date.
  • Wash all produce that you get thoroughly before consumption.
  • If any products show evidence of mold, pest or bug interference, or tampering, immediately discard the product.
  • Do not let raw food, especially raw meat, have contact with your cooked or ready to eat food.
  • Keep your food at safe temperatures. If it must be cold,  put it in the refrigerator or freezer immediately. If it must be warm, keep it at a hot temperature until consumption.
  • Wash your hands as often as possible.
